Over Atlantic – made up of members Trevor Cash, Charlie Jones, Sean Killeen, Gabriel Gomer and Liam Ross – have made quite an impact on the music scene. In their time together as a band thus far, they have gone on to support artists, while also doing their own headline shows.
Their debut EP ‘Likes Me Like That’ was released in April 2017, featuring four original tracks.
The band have recently announced a UK headline tour, which will see them perform to the legion of loyal and dedicated fans they have built up. Tickets can be bought by clicking here.
The band also regularly post covers on to their official YouTube channel. You can watch their most recent cover below:
CelebMix recently had the chance to speak to Over Atlantic about their sound, musical influences – and more! Check out our interview below.
How would you sum up your sound?
OA: Our EP was pretty pop-rock, a sound that we all still really love. While we love that sound, we’ve progressed a lot as musicians and songwriters and have been working hard on writing new songs and we think we’ve found a sound that feels fresh and right for us. We’d sum up the new stuff as an indie pop sound with a darker edge.
What do you think makes Over Atlantic stand out in the music industry today?
OA: I think one of the main things that makes us unique is that we all come from different parts of the world with different music backgrounds. We bring those influences together and it makes a cool sound. Also, our live show is a huge part of what we do as a band and we try our best to put on an energetic and fun show that is different to what you have seen before. We’ve only just started as a band and we do everything ourselves. We have so many ideas that people haven’t seen yet and we still have a lot to show.
What is a favourite cover you have done?
OA: I think our newest cover of ‘Friends’ by Justin Bieber is our favourite as a band. It took a lot of hard work and it was a lot of fun to record. It was cool to bust out the bass and Gabe’s drum kit as well.
You have supported artists and also performed your own headline shows, soon to embark on your headline tour – what is it like being able to meet those who support the band?
OA: Meeting fans is probably the best thing about playing shows. Being able to come face-to-face to the people that support us daily is a great feeling. We are overwhelmed daily with the support that our fans give us and we can never thank them enough for all that they do.
What is your favourite aspect of touring?
OA: Like we said, meeting fans is always the best. If we had to say another one, playing our songs live and hearing people sing the words back is one of the coolest feelings.
As a band, who are your musical influences?
OA: Just to name a few – bands like Smallpools, Twenty One Pilots, The Wombats, Pvris, and our friends in Nothing But Thieves have all influenced us a lot in the past year with our sound.
You released your debut EP back in April – how did it feel to debut original material you had been working on?
OA: The feeling of releasing music for the first time was a feeling that we haven’t experienced before. It was an amazing feeling to work so hard on something and finally put it out for everyone to hear. It helped us learn a lot. We can’t wait to do it again in the future with our new music.
Collectively, what is your favourite memory together?
OA: I’d say our favourite memory was our first European tour with Jake Miller. Seeing a different country every day and meeting new fans was an awesome experience that made us want to work harder and harder for them.
What is your biggest achievement to date? Further, what is something you would like to achieve in the future?
OA: I think our biggest achievement is being at a stage where we can do our own headline tour and have so many people come out to see us. We can’t wait to release an album, tour more places, play for more people, and meet new fans. As long as we’re always doing music, we’ll be happy.
What is your favourite original track that you have written as a band?
OA: I’d say our favourite song that people have heard would have to be our song ‘Weight Of The World.’
Prior to going on stage, do you have a pre-stage ritual?
OA: We’re all pretty crazy and loud so we usually just try and hype each other up as much as possible and try and put each other in a good mood.
If you were to collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
OA: I think if we could write with anyone we’d have to say Twenty One Pilots. We have so much respect for them and look up to them a lot.
Do you have any plans for the rest of the year?
OA: We are doing a headline tour this October and we’re really excited about it! You can check out our tour dates on all our socials. We’re all really excited about our new show and can’t wait for people to see it. We have a lot of new material in the works and we hope we can get it out as soon as we can.
Finally, do you have a message for your fans?
OA: Thank you for everything and we can’t wait to see you out on the road!
