Aussie video creator Miles Shepherd has joked that he’s now dating Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney, following a viral video that captured his surprise encounter with the actor on the Gold Coast last week.
Shepherd’s original video showed him seemingly awe-struck by Sweeney’s appearance at a Gold Coast beach, and was viewed more than four million times.
His TikTok about seeing the Euphoria actor in her green swimsuit not only garnered millions of views but also caught the eye of Sweeney herself: She slid into his DMs with a playful message: “u should’ve said hi.”
Shepherd, not missing a beat, responded with enthusiasm.
“She must’ve seen my TikTok because she sent me a DM, and I sent her one back,” he shared, along with screenshots of their exchange.
Shepherd described his response as a “do or die” moment, humorously attempting to ask the star out on a date, despite Sweeney’s known engagement to US restaurateur Jonathan Davino.
Five days after his initial post, Shepherd posted a follow-up video, providing a much-anticipated update.
“Obviously, the DMs between myself and Sydney have gone completely viral. So just wanted to come on here and tell the truth of the matter, which is Sydney and I are now seeing each other,” he stated.
Riding this wave of viral fame, Shepherd’s subsequent update video spiralled into a mockumentary-style romantic comedy.
“And you know, the last few days has been like a movie, some would say it’s like we’re filming our own little rom-com,” he said.
He even playfully addressed Sweeney’s engagement to Davino and the speculated fling with co-star Glenn Powell.
“For those of you saying she’s engaged, like, I don’t see a ring on. I don’t see a ring there. So we’re working through that – that’s all getting organised behind the scenes,” Shepherd joked.

“I’ve spoken to my boy Glenn cleared the air on all the rumours that the media we’re coming up with, but we’re homies now, which is awesome.”
Shepherd himself added a touch of irony to the story, asking for respect for their privacy, “mainly hers,” in a humorous nod to the often-absurd nature of celebrity culture.
This entire episode, while clearly in jest, has been a hit with Shepherd’s followers and the wider audience, with the entire ‘Sydney Sweeney series’ on Shepherd’s TikTok account garnering over 5.3 million views.
